Rationale for Objective 7

To demonstrate my understanding of learning objective #7 on how to apply a range of social work theories and evidence-based interventions with individuals, families, small groups, organizations, and communities in all types of settings, I chose to include a sample of a single-subject design that I conducted in the fall of 2007 which was one of the requirements for my learning agreement.

The single-subject design is a measurement of my own walking exercise program designed in an effort to help me de-stress.  The measurement demonstrates an evidence-based intervention for an individual and involves measurement for length of time, which was weekly; and days walked or not walked.  The individual measurement used was a good learning tool and model to follow for measuring clients' progress with personal goals which ultimately can help empower them to live better lives.

I am presently conducting a single-subject design with a client who is taking physical therapy three times a week.  She began physical therapy because she had a stroke that resulted in her left leg being paralyzed.  The intervention is helping the client continue to stay encouraged and to continue working hard to meet her goal of regaining mobility of her leg; she enjoys seeing a visual chart of the progress that she has made.

I decided to also include an annotated bibliography that was completed for research II to demonstrate an understanding of objective #7.

In addition, I have included an electronic poster that was recently displayed at a research showcase at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
